The park itself was a gift from Clarence Horace Wickham, who was an industrialist who invented the window envelope, used in mailing and business. He managed a successful envelope business with his father, Horace John Wickham. Wickham Park is a very in-demand location for wedding events due to it’s old fashioned charm, vibrant gardens and breath-taking views, which will create an ideal setting for your Connecticut wedding.
If you plan on hosting your wedding reception at Wicker Park, among the most popular areas within the park is the English Garden. The Garden area is spacious enough to comfortably host up to 200 of your guests. The English Garden itself encompasses three areas, the garden maze, the knot garden, and the great lawn, which all together cover approximately 2 acres of land. It’s professionally landscape gardens were designed so that it will stay vibrant and in bloom all year round. The English Garden is comprised of over one-thousand feet of manicured hedges that contain numerous types of shrubs, roses, and perennials.
Another popular section of Wickham Park is the Italian Shrine Garden, which was designed as an open structure which was constructed with stucco pillars and a flagstone floor and is surrounded with flowers, plants, and shrubs. This particular garden can comfortably accommodate a wedding that holds up to one hundred and twenty five guests and will give your wedding an elegant and classical feel that will suite a more formal atmosphere.
Wickham park contains 250 acres of gardens, open fields, woodlands, ponds, picnic areas, Frisbee golf coarse and sports facilities, among other attractions.
