Wedding décor can help make or break a beautiful reception space and the right combination of floral and other accents are a key component. The first step toward making your vision for wedding décor come to life is setting up a floral consultation. When approaching your florist, here are some items to consider in order to make your consultation as successful as possible:
Bring ideas or examples of your wedding colors, favorite flowers, and arrangements or centerpieces you like. Also, would you consider yourself a traditional or more modern bride? It’s wise to have a foundation to build upon when creating your vision since there are so many elements of varying styles. These decisions will help shape the mood and overall atmosphere of your wedding.
Where is your ceremony and do you plan on having ceremony flowers? If the ceremony is in an outdoor space, you may need to rent pedestals or an arch to display the flowers. If it’s at a church, ask the onsite coordinator what is permitted. For example, many churches and venues allow floral arrangements to be displayed but do not allow real flower petals to be thrown or placed in an aisle.
What type of flowers do you want for the bridal party and how would you like them to mix with your bridal bouquet? For your bouquet, do you want an arrangement that is mostly white or filled with color? Should it be tight or cascading? If your bouquet is mostly white or ivory, check if it might blend in with your dress; sometimes a bouquet of different types of flowers can help alleviate this concern. What about the flower girl and ring bearer? And don’t forget about some family members; sometimes it’s nice to make sure the mothers and grandmothers have something pretty to wear.
Centerpieces are a key component of the reception décor, so invest a good amount of time into contemplating your vision. Is your style clean and simple, or extravagant and ornate? Also, don’t forget about auxiliary tables throughout the venue, like belly bars and such. Many times people opt to have a very small arrangement (a small vase with a simple flower) for these items.
And lastly, the season. You may have some of your favorite flowers already picked out, but choosing ones that are in season can help a great deal with cost.
